As our summer intern, you will be immersed in a dynamic environment within the Business Intelligence team where you will gain hands-on experience in the exciting field of machine learning using cutting-edge technologies. You will be developing and evaluating machine learning models within Python notebooks. Your journey will begin with the development and testing of a basic machine learning model, and you will then have the opportunity to progress to a more complex and experimental design!
This internship offers a unique chance to apply your theoretical knowledge to practical challenges and gain invaluable industry experience.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Implementing and testing machine learning models using within a Python notebook.
- Conducting thorough testing and evaluation of model performance, identifying areas for improvement.
- Progressing from building a basic model to contributing to a larger, more complex experimental design.
- Collaborating with our data scientists and data engineers, benefitting from learning from experienced professionals.
- Exploring and manipulating data to feed into ML models.
Personal Specification
- Python programming skills (intermediate level proficiency).
- Understanding of common machine learning techniques, particularly for classification and regression tasks.
- Basic understanding of Python datatypes and the Pandas library for data manipulation.
- Excellent technical communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.
- Strong technical and mathematical aptitude (equivalent to A-Level standard or higher).
Desirable Criteria
- Practical experience with PySpark for distributed data processing and machine learning.
- Hands-on experience working with Pandas DataFrames for data manipulation and analysis.
- Familiarity with database concepts and data manipulation techniques.
- An understanding and appreciation of data modelling principles.
- Experience writing and executing SQL queries.
- Exposure to neural networks and their application in machine learning.
- Knowledge of Business Intelligence processes and experience with Power BI or similar visualization tools.
