Ready to take ownership of packaging – from concept to customers' hands?
We are looking for a Packaging Development Engineer to take ownership of packaging development across Orkla House Care’s product portfolio, covering both own-produced and purchased goods.
Packaging plays a critical role in how our products are produced, transported, presented, and experienced by customers. It influences cost, quality, sustainability, and customer satisfaction across every market we operate in.
This is a newly established role, offering a unique opportunity to shape how packaging supports our products and growth ambitions. Unlike many packaging roles, this position combines responsibility across packaging design, materials and supply chain performance, with influence spanning the full value chain.
You will report to the Product & Innovation Director and be part of an international Product & Innovation team, collaborating across functions, sites and markets throughout the value chain.
Your responsibilities:
- Lead the development of packaging solutions across Orkla House Care's product portfolio, from concept to implementation, balancing product presentation, customer experience, functionality, operational efficiency and sustainability.
- Define innovative packaging concepts and structures that support both product and business needs across different markets and sales channels.
- Drive material selection, development and specification in close collaboration with suppliers and our packaging procurement team, balancing performance, cost, sustainability and regulatory requirements.
- Identify new material opportunities and lead initiatives that improve recyclability, reduce complexity and support compliance with packaging sustainability requirements across markets, including PPWR and local EPR frameworks.
- Develop packaging solutions that support efficient manufacturing, logistics and product handling across the value chain.
- Ensure packaging performance through testing, validation and continuous improvement, covering transport, storage and customer-facing environments.
- Act as the packaging subject matter expert in development projects, collaborating across functions, sites and markets.
- Own packaging specifications, drawings, bill of materials and related documentation, ensuring high-quality data and compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Relevant higher education within Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or similar. Candidates without a formal degree but with strong, demonstrated experience in packaging development are also encouraged to apply.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in packaging development or packaging engineering, preferably within Consumer Goods.
- Experience working with a range of packaging materials and their applications.
- Experience with material selection and optimisation, balancing performance, cost and sustainability.
- Experience working with packaging specifications, BOMs or technical data.
- Understanding of how packaging impacts production efficiency and the broader supply chain.
- Experience with packaging testing methods and standards.
- Experience with sustainability and regulatory frameworks related to packaging (e.g. PPWR, EPR).
- Fluency in English, written and spoken.
Experience considered as an advantage:
- Experience from international or multi-site organisations
- Experience with PLM Systems
- Experience with CAD or structural packaging tools
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a structured and solution-oriented packaging specialist who combines technical depth with a practical, hands-on approach.
You take ownership of your area, work systematically and have a strong eye for detail, while also understanding the broader business impact of packaging decisions. You collaborate well across functions and are comfortable managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
You are proactive, curious and motivated by improving how things are done: From materials and design to processes and performance.
You identify with Orkla House Care’s values: Passion, Results, Integrity, Diversity and Empowerment.
We value diversity and encourage all qualified candidates to apply, regardless of gender, age, background, or abilities. If you are motivated and have relevant experience, we welcome your application - even if you don’t meet every requirement. We believe that different skills and experiences bring unique value, and you might be the right fit for our team.
What can Orkla House Care offer you?
At Orkla House Care, you will be part of an international company with a strong market position and clear growth ambitions. We offer an environment where you are trusted to take responsibility and contribute to meaningful improvements.

- A key role in a newly established position with broad responsibility across packaging design, materials and supply chain performance.
- The opportunity to work across multiple markets, functions and production sites.

We offer competitive local terms and benefits depending on your country of employment.
This role can be based in Oslo (Norway), Bankeryd (Sweden), Bromsgrove (UK), Vallensbæk (Denmark) or Wommelgem (Belgium).
The role includes regular travel (approximately 30–40 days per year) to production sites and suppliers.
