The Role - Category Manager Ocean Freight

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Packaging & Logistics team in Orkla Group Procurement (OGP). The role will be responsible for managing the Ocean Freight category across the whole organisation and reports to the Head of Logistics. The team consists of 10 dedicated professionals working with strategic and sustainable procurement of packaging and logistics services. The team members are located in Malmö, Oslo and Prague, with this specific position being located in Oslo at Orkla’s newly built headquarters in Skøyen.

 

This Category Manager role is a key and important one within OGP and has the opportunity to work directly with many of Orkla’s strongest brands and beloved products. You will in this role have a direct effect on Orkla’s ability to have a sustainable and cost-efficient supply chain. You will be regarded as the champion of your category and have many contacts and stakeholders, both externally and internally.

 

Your main responsibility will be to develop and drive the strategies for the Ocean Freight category within Logistics. To support you with this, you will have both the strategic (OGP) and tactical (Business Units) dimensions of Orkla’s procurement community as well as Orkla’s Supply chain organization, where you will find inspiring and helpful colleagues spread over Europe. You will typically work with the contracted provider on freight rates, lane development, market dynamics/effects, closer integration with Orkla companies, developing projects using best practice and maintaining a high level of momentum on the continuous improvement agenda.

What are we looking for?

 

This role will see the successful applicant working strategically with all business areas in Orkla and harnessing the enormous value in the relationship with third party logistics providers to deliver both cost improvement and efficiency within the Ocean Freight category.

 

Key requirements:
•    3-5 years experience in strategic procurement and a Masters degree or equivalent
•    Ocean Freight/ logistics experience is highly desirable but not essential
•    Excellent communication and collaboration skills in an international setting
•    Strong negotiation skills 
•    A good understanding and appreciation of global economic factors affecting the category
•    Highly experienced and effective in developing relationships with external stakeholders
•    Highly competent in Microsoft Office applications
•    To communicate with your colleagues and suppliers we expect you to speak and write English fluently and preferably in addition, that you are fluent in at least one Scandinavian language.

 

In this role you can expect some travel, with some periods requiring more extensive travel. Travel will be primarily to Orkla’s office in Malmö, to suppliers in Northern Europe, and to Orkla’s plants in the Nordics, Baltic countries and Central/Eastern Europe.
